The event gathered leading experts and industry voices to address strategies for building environmental resilience, with a focus on creating solutions tailored to Pakistan’s specific climate challenges.  The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Uqba Mehmood, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences, setting the stage for an insightful and collaborative dialogue.

The session, moderated by Dr. Rabia Nawaz, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, featured an impressive lineup of distinguished panelists, including Mr. Altaf Hussain, Director of the Zoological Survey of Pakistan; Mr. Sardar Aasif Ali Sial, environmental lawyer and international climate jurist; and Mr. Hameed Ullah Malik, Director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority South.  The discussion also welcomed other notable participants such as Dr. Nadeem Iqbal, Director General of Pakistan Chemical and Bioindustries Lahore; Mr. Sajid Mustafa, CEO & Co-Founder of Royal Bio-energy; and Dr. Abdul Qadir, Associate Professor at Punjab University’s Centre for Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The panellists engaged in a thought-provoking exploration of the financial aspects of climate adaptation and the critical need for locally driven, sustainable solutions. The discussion highlighted the potential of community-led initiatives and innovative financing models that empower local communities to actively participate in and implement climate adaptation measures.

The need for capacity building at the grassroots level was a recurring theme throughout the session, focusing on enabling local organizations and institutions to adopt sustainable environmental practices that address specific regional needs. The panel underscored that while climate change presents complex challenges, fostering strategic partnerships and investing in indigenous solutions are essential for building a resilient, sustainable future.
