Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Services

Uphold its mission of enhancing student learning through practical exposure in real-world healthcare environments. As part of the academic initiative on Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Services for Students, medical students visited the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Reproductive Health Centre to observe the delivery of comprehensive maternal and reproductive healthcare services. The visit included active observation of Antenatal Care (ANC) clinics providing maternal assessments, nutritional counseling, and health education for expectant mothers.

Students also engaged with Family Planning Services, gaining valuable insight into counseling methods and contraceptive options such as oral pills, injectables, intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs), and condoms. Additionally, they observed Immunization Services for mothers and infants, emphasizing the importance of preventive care within maternal health programs. Health education sessions on menstrual hygiene, safe motherhood, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) further broadened their understanding of community health challenges. Through meaningful interaction with Lady Health Visitors, midwives, and Public Health Nurses, students gained firsthand experience in service delivery systems, record keeping, and referral procedures. This experiential learning opportunity strengthened their understanding and commitment to improving reproductive and maternal health outcomes within the community.
